Alex Job racers win at Le Mans
Alex Job Racing drivers finished first and second in the GT class in the 24
Hours of Le Mans this past weekend. Lucas Luhr took the GT pole position in
The Racer's Group Porsche and went on to win the class with his Alex Job
teammate Timo Bernhard and team owner Kevin Buckler.
Jörg Bergmeister and Sascha Maassen drove the Freisinger Motorsport Porsche
with Romain Dumas. The Freisinger trio dominated the class for the first 16
hours of the race, but a six-minute pit stop to replace brake discs erased
their lead. They finished second, one minute behind.
"It's amazing!" said Bernhard, after winning in his first Le Mans start.
"The whole race was without big problems and the whole combination of the
drivers and everything was really good. It gives me more experience and
that's the most important thing."
Maassen noted the close finish between the cars after 24 hours of racing.
"It was back and forwards," he said. "Sometimes Lucas and Timo were leading
and the other times we were leading, but we were always within two or three
minutes. It was a very interesting race!
"We had to change our brake discs -- they were completely gone. The other
Porsche car didn't have the problem with the brake discs that we had, so that
was the main difference. We lost by one minute and the pitstop was four or
five minutes."
The four German drivers will return to Alex Job Racing for the next American
Le Mans Series race, scheduled for June 30 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in
Lexington, Ohio.
