CASCAR Super Series For more information contact CASCAR at (519) 641-1214 For immediate release / June 15, 2002 Gibbons nabs pole for NAPA 250 at Mosport Int'l Raceway OSHAWA, ON - As he has done on several previous occasions during his CASCAR career, Canadian Tire Chevy driver Peter Gibbons waited until the last possible moment to set the fastest lap of qualifying at a Super Series road course event. With time running out in the half-hour qualifying session for Sunday afternoon's 'NAPA presents the Clarington 250' at Mosport Int'l Raceway, Gibbons ducked into the pits for a final tweak. Cutting almost a second and a half off his previous best lap of the session, the Stouffville, ON racer circled the 10-turn, 3.957 km track in 1 minute, 26.543 seconds. That was good enough to bump Al Turner's Blue Streak Intrepid out of the top position. Prior to Gibbons' hot lap, Turner's time of 1:27.509 appeared good enough to earn the Barrie, ON racer the pole for Sunday's main event. Both Gibbons and Turner posted times under the previous track record, which was established last year by Kevin Dowler. Defending Super Series champion Don Thomson Jr. will line up third for the NAPA 250. Earlier in the day, the CASCAR Late Models practiced in dry conditions. Turner was quickest in that morning session. An early-afternoon qualifying session was washed away by heavy rains, and the track time was used by some teams as a wet practice period. CASCAR NOTES: The CASCAR Super Series drivers' autograph session will start Sunday at noon.
