Alliance With European Powertrain Company Improves SwRI's Prime Mover Capabilities

SAN ANTONIO--June 14, 2002--Southwest Research Institute(tm) (SwRI(R)) and Powertrain Technology Ltd. (PTL) have entered into a strategic alliance in powertrain technology development that better serves the needs of their worldwide clients.
The agreement between SwRI, based in San Antonio, Texas, USA, and PTL of Shoreham-by-Sea, United Kingdom, goes into effect July 1.
SwRI and PTL are recognized leaders in engine, powertrain and vehicle technology and have successfully delivered large programs to clients, said Nigel Gale, vice president of the SwRI Engine and Vehicle Research Division.
"However, each organization has specific expertise that complements the other. SwRI has one of the largest independent engine and automotive research laboratories in the world. PTL has more than 300 combined years of engine design and application experience with both gasoline and diesel-based engine and systems," Gale said.
"Furthermore, the two locations, with proven communication and operational systems, can provide enlarged capabilities, services and synergistic solutions for their combined clientele."
For further information, please contact Gale at 210/522-3024 or ngale@swri.org, or John McClelland, PTL's chief engineer, at 44-1273-466-677 or jmcclelland@swri.org.

SwRI is an independent, nonprofit, applied research and development organization based in San Antonio, Texas, with more than 2,700 employees and an annual research volume of more than $319 million.
