National Safety Council Offers New Training Aids for Construction and Utilities Foremen
Itasca, IL - Construction and utilities workers are among the most susceptible to work-related injuries and deaths. In 2000, 1,220 construction workers were killed and 470,000 injured. Transportation and public utility workers suffered 930 deaths and 380,000 injuries.
To address this problem, the National Safety Council (NSC) is now offering Toolbox Safety Kits. They are designed to help construction and utilities foremen and supervisors train crews effectively and efficiently. Each kit contains National Safety Council booklets relevant to the industry, laminated trainer outline cards, laminated emergency information sheets, a dry erase marker, and employee sign-off sheets.
NSC Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ted Borek said, *A safe worksite is essential to any industry. The construction and utilities industries face unique challenges, especially the high turnover of seasonal and temporary workers.*
The Toolbox Safety Kits provide low-cost training that can be repeated as often as new workers join the crew. Safety training helps prevent work-related injuries and illnesses, reduce worker compensation costs and improve employee morale.
The National Safety Council is a not for profit, nongovernmental membership organization dedicated to reducing unintentional injuries in homes and communities, in the workplace and on the road.
