Mopar Drivers Reflect on Father's Day
> HEBRON, Ohio (June 13, 2002) -- Father¹s Day is very important to the drivers
> of Mopar¹s NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series program.
>
> There¹s no better example of a father being involved than Don Skuza, owner of
> Skuza Motorsports, which fields the Mopar Parts Dodge Stratus R/T Nitro Funny
> Car of son Dean Skuza. With the Skuza family, it¹s a special relationship that
> you don¹t see very often in a high-intensity sport like drag racing.
>
> ³Since I was old enough to know, I have spent a lot of time doing things with
> my dad,² Dean said. ³No matter what he was doing I wanted to be there. We
> have a great relationship. I can¹t think of another person that I want to
> spend more time with. And we¹re perfect business partners.
>
> ³Even when we don¹t win, I can take one thing away from the weekend,² Dean
> added. ³It was another weekend that I spent quality time with my dad. You
> can¹t put a price on that.²
>
> Dean is also a father, as son Donnie is a big part of his father¹s life as
> well.
>
> ³When I¹m not racing, I can¹t wait to get home and spend time with my son,²
> Dean said. ³He¹s such a joy to be around. When I¹m around him, the things that
> are really important in life come into focus.²
>
> Mopar Pro Stock driver Gene Wilson also spends a lot of time with his father.
> Unlike many father¹s though, Wilson¹s father Orlando also has a name for
> himself. It¹s more than likely that many drag racing fans have spent a Sunday
> morning watching ŒFishing with Orlando Wilson¹ on ESPN or TNN.
>
> ³He¹s a real neat person,² Gene said. ³He¹s very supportive of what I have
> done. He¹s always there for me and he¹s always helping me when I have
> questions. It¹s a real special relationship that we have.²
>
> It¹s quite often that Orlando is seen at the track, as he loves the sport
> almost as much as Gene.
>
> ³I enjoy fishing, but I have always had a fascination with cars,² Gene said.
> ³And my dad has always supported my love. He was able to make a career out of
> what he loved. Now I get to do the same thing. It¹s pretty awesome.²
>
> Eliminations will come and go on Sunday, but it¹s a day really meant for dad.
