Rahal to Ride Again At Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
DUBLIN, Ohio (June 12, 2002) - Bobby Rahal, who called Mid-Ohio Sports Car
Course his home race track throughout much of his racing career, will return
to the track as a competitor for the first time since 1998 when following
"Rahal's Last Ride" he retired as a CART driver. Rahal will race his Porsche
908 during the Sprint Vintage Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, June
14-16.
"What makes Vintage racing fun is it is a celebration of the cars, and
that's why we're here", said Rahal. "Some of these cars were never seen in
this country, and this is a chance for race fans to see them."
"I'm looking forward to getting my great car out on the track and putting it
through its paces and seeing what it can do."
Now the co-owner of Team Rahal along with The Late Show host David
Letterman, the 48-year-old is no stranger to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. As
a CART driver, he made 16 starts at Mid-Ohio, finishing in the top-3 in
exactly half of those races. Rahal won in 1985 after starting from the pole,
then followed that up with his second consecutive win at the circuit in
1986. His eight podium finishes are a track record.
"This weekend is going to be fun. People are always asking if I miss racing,
and I always say that I miss certain circuits. Mid-Ohio is definitely one of
them," added Rahal.
Ever the competitor on the track, Rahal has taken the same fire to ownership
of Team Rahal. Michel Jordain, Jr. is currently second in the CART standings
following 5 races, and Jimmy Vasser finished 2nd at the Grand Prix of Long
Beach following a Pole Position start. Team Rahal will look to continue its
success at Mid-Ohio during the Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio August 8-11, 2002.
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is located approximately halfway between Columbus
and Cleveland, Ohio off of Interstate 71. Commonly referred to as the "Most
Competitive in the U.S.", Mid-Ohio host six events throughout the summer.
