Power Components Worldwide Market Segment

Fairchild Semiconductor International , one of the largest global suppliers of high performance power products for multiple end markets, today announced it has captured the number one worldwide market position in power transistors, as reported by market research firm Gartner Dataquest. Fairchild increased its 2001 power transistor revenues by more than 42% over the previous year, allowing the company to leap in the Gartner rankings from its former position as the ninth largest supplier to the top global vendor in a single year. Fairchild now holds 10.2% of the $5.6 billion global power transistor market.
Fairchild made the announcement at the Bear Stearns 13th Annual Technology Conference in New York. "Fairchild's focus on power solutions for multi-market applications enabled us to increase market share substantially, even during the economic challenges of 2001," said Hans Wildenberg, Fairchild's executive vice president of Worldwide Sales and Marketing. "We concentrated our efforts on two things: first, key acquisitions including the Intersil power discrete business which boosted our presence in the automotive and industrial markets and secondly, on bringing new products to market to achieve new design wins with world class companies in computing, communications, consumer, automotive and industrial manufacturing. Through this combination we were able to expand Fairchild's presence in both key geographic markets and the fastest growing end applications, significantly outpacing the competition."
Power discretes, which include power transistors in the Gartner rankings, represent the largest segment of Fairchild's power products mix accounting for 46% of overall revenues. With a heightened focus on power components, including power discretes and power analog, Fairchild now attributes close to two-thirds of its sales to power products. Power products represent a $9 billion market segment in the overall $22 billion multi-market semiconductor industry.
