NO. 7 SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO DODGE TO RUN FIRST PAINT SCHEME
IN NASCAR WINSTON CUP HISTORY FEATURING A FEMALE PERFORMING ACT
NEW YORK, June 11, 2002 - Sirius Satellite Radio , the country's premier satellite radio broadcaster, announced today that its No. 7 Sirius Satellite Radio Dodge race car will soon trade its Dog Star hood design for stars of another kind - music celebrities - bringing to life the faces behind the 100-percent commercial-free music heard on Sirius.
Beginning at the Sirius Satellite Radio 400 in Michigan, Casey Atwood's No. 7 Sirius Dodge will become the motorsports version of the cover of Rolling Stone, with the hottest stars of entertainment gracing the hood. This weekend, the car will feature DreamWorks Records recording stars Soluna, the hot new Latin sound sensation with the breakthrough title track hit single, "For All Time" from their debut album For All Time. Soluna's For All Time ranges from tender ballads to high-energy dance songs with pop, Latin and R&B influences.
The unique paint scheme, which features the four band members of Soluna, marks the first time a female recording act has been portrayed in a special paint scheme in NASCAR Winston Cup. The cover artwork from Soluna's new album, showcasing band members America Olivo, Jessica Castellanos, T Lopez and Aurora Rodriguez, will appear on the hood.
The women of Soluna were all born and raised in the United States, but count Chilean, Colombian, Mexican and Puerto Rican among their heritage and musical influences. Their music is distinguished by the individual styles of its members and their common Latin heritage. They chose the name Soluna because it suggests the contrast of the sun and the moon and reflects how their music alternates between power and vulnerability.
"Our car will be like Rolling Stone on wheels," said Philip Pilla, vice president of marketing for Sirius Satellite Radio. "We believe that motorsports is an ideal vehicle for marketing our brand, and what better way to demonstrate what we do than to bring the music heard on Sirius to life on the hood of the No. 7 Sirius Dodge. We have a tremendous opportunity to use the growing visibility of NASCAR Winston Cup racing to showcase the very talented lineup of 100 percent commercial-free music heard on Sirius. And, we're hoping to bring a new level of excitement and edge to racing by linking with today's hottest music stars and performers."
The music industry also is getting in gear with the Sirius program and its innovative marketing approach, and a number of top stars are expected to appear on the hood of the No. 7 Sirius Satellite Radio Dodge this season. Sirius will run special paint schemes at a number of races during the 2002 NASCAR Winston Cup season.
"I think it's really cool to have the music groups you listen to on the hood of the Sirius race car," said Casey Atwood, driver of the No. 7 Sirius Satellite Radio Dodge. "I like all kinds of music, so I can't wait to see who shows up on the car next. Brooks and Dunn are my favorite, but I'll bet the girls from Soluna look a lot better on the paint scheme."
Soluna can currently be heard on Sirius' "Top 40 Hits" (channel 1) under the Pop genre and the "Latin Pop Mix" (channel 71) under the Latin genre. Only Sirius brings its listeners 60 original music channels, all commercial-free, and 40 world-class sports, news and entertainment channels.
