Extended Systems, Visteon and BMW Collaborate at Bluetooth Congress

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands--June 11, 2002--Extended Systems , a leading provider of mobile data management and wireless connectivity solutions, and Visteon Corp., in cooperation with BMW, are demonstrating a real-life demonstration of Bluetooth technology in an automobile at Bluetooth World Congress 2002 in the Extended Systems' Partner Pavilion, booth 500.
The hands-free solution enables drivers to control consumer devices and console functions via a voice connection over Bluetooth, allowing them to stay focused on driving. Increased use of mobile devices coupled with new legislation mandating hands-free communications in automobiles continues to drive the adoption of Bluetooth in the telematics industry.
"This demonstration represents an ideal application for Bluetooth technology," said Don Baumgartner, vice president of marketing at Extended Systems. "The interior of an automobile is an optimal environment to implement a personal area network and wireless Bluetooth communications."
On June 12 at Bluetooth Congress, the three companies will co-present a case study that will focus on the demand for the Bluetooth hands-free profile, hardware platforms that can facilitate the profile, and remaining considerations involved with making Bluetooth available for general commercial use. In addition, Extended Systems is also presenting on the topics of mobile device management with Bluetooth and SyncML and writing OBEX over Bluetooth in Java during the conference.
