Snodgrass Named 6 Hours of The Glen Grand Marshal
Elmira Native To Give Famous Command For Historic Race
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 10, 2002) - Watkins Glen International President Craig Rust announced today that Robert F. Snodgrass, Jr. will serve as the Grand Marshal for this year's 6 Hours of The Glen Rolex Sports Car Series race during the Sports Car Grand Prix weekend, June 21-23. Snodgrass, a former resident of Elmira, N.Y. for 14 years, currently is the Chief Executive Officer and President of Brumos Racing, Brumos Motor Cars, Inc., Lexus of Jacksonville, and Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville, Fla.
"We are pleased to announce someone with such close ties to the Watkins Glen area as our Grand Marshal for one of the most prestigious sports car events in the United States," said Rust. "With the new class of Daytona Prototypes entering competition next year, and Bob's significant role in making this new wave of sports car racing a success, there isn't a better choice than him to give the command to start engines."
"As an Elmira native, I attended the first race held at Watkins Glen in 1948. I find the fact that I have been asked to be the Grand Marshal a huge honor," said Snodgrass. "And as a Watkins Glen fanatic, I think it is probably every racing enthusiasts dream to have this happen. I am thrilled and honored to have been chosen."
Brumos Racing made history last January when it became the first team to announce plans to contest the new Daytona Prototype in the 2003 Rolex Sports Car Series season with drivers Hurley Haywood, David Donahue, J.C. France and Wayne Jackson.
Brumos Racing has a racing history with Porsche that includes seven IMSA overall championships, four SCCA Trans-Am championships and an IMSA North American GT championship. They have also appeared in Daytona's Victory Lane six times as the owner or sponsor of the Rolex 24 At Daytona overall winner.
Snodgrass, a 1960 graduate of the Elmira Free Academy, currently serves as the Vice Chairman for the Grand American Road Racing Association, past Chairman of the United States Road Racing Championship and a Director of the Automobile Competition Committee United States. Snodgrass is also a John Gordon Benett Award Winner and a recipient of the Sports Illustrated All-Star Dealer award.
The Rolex Sports Car Series makes its first of two trips to The Glen with the Sports Car Grand Prix, including Sunday's legendary 6 Hours of The Glen and the always exciting Ferrari Challenge. Twilight racing will once again be a part of the weekend as the Grand-Am Cup teams compete in two-250 mile races Saturday evening.
