Fuji Heavy Industries halts car production in Taiwan

TOKYO — Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd, the maker of Subaru cars, said Friday it has terminated local car production in Taiwan and will supply the Taiwan markets with imports from Japan.

Fuji described the move as a change in management strategy in response to Taiwan's entry in the World Trade Organization in January. It had been producing Subaru cars at its Taiwan joint venture, Ta Ching Motors Co, since 1986 but output has been dwindling in recent years as a result of a slumping Taiwan car market. (Kyodo News)
