Irwindale, CA - - K&N Performance Filters, the world's most respected high-performance air and oil filter company will be the presenting sponsor of Saturday, June 8's NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series presented by Dodge and, as part of their promotion they'll be bringing a number of very special race cars for display and a number of very special racing people to meet the fans.
On the people side, Frank Pedregon, the driver of the 6,000-horsepower Jim Dunn Racing NHRA Funny Car sponsored by K&N is scheduled to be on hand to let fans know what its like to run the 1/4-mile in under 6 seconds at 220 miles an hour plus. California native Pedregon has raced just about everything on wheels and he's anxious to get his first look at Irwindale on Saturday night.
Sports car racer Rodney Mall, K&N's President and CEO, will also be here at Irwindale on Saturday just before jumping on a plane for LeMans on Sunday to drive the Konrad Motorsports Saleen S7 in the fabled 24 hour race. Mall is fresh off a class triumph in the GTS class at the last sports car races at Phoenix International Raceway. K&N's crack PR-pro Shane Reichardt has let it be known that a few more racing celebs are most likely to be heading out to Irwindale for the Saturday night shindig as well.
On the hardware front, K&N will bring some slick stuff for all the fans to marvel at as well. The sleek and sexy Ultima GTR, a closed-cockpit, rear-motored speedster that features a 600 horse-power Chevy shoehorned into the motorbay out back. Steve Williams (K&N's VP of Research and Design) is the man behind (inside) the Super Comp Dragster that will be on display on Saturday night at the Speedway … His "other" car, a Corvette Super Gas Convertible will be on display as well and giving everyone a good look at one of the fastest Corvettes on the planet. Again, this list is only a partial one with plenty of exotic cars left to come on Saturday afternoon.
