PPG Announces Management Assignments

    PITTSBURGH--June 5, 2002--PPG Industries today announced a series of management assignments effective July 1:

-- J. Rich Alexander, general manager, general industrial coatings, has been appointed vice president, industrial coatings;
-- Kathleen A. McGuire, vice president, silicas, has been appointed vice president, purchasing and distribution;
-- Amy F. Molenda, general auditor, has been appointed general manager, silicas.

    Alexander, 46, began his career with PPG in 1978 as a fiber glass market research analyst in Pittsburgh and served in a variety of fiber glass sales and marketing positions in Detroit, Columbus, Ohio, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles. He was named general manager, fiber glass, electronic and specialty materials, in 1996 and general manager of fiber glass reinforcements in 1997. He was appointed to his current position in September of 2000.
    McGuire, 54, joined PPG in 1970 as a chemist at the Springdale, Pa., technical center and in 1982 was named marketing manager of consumer products for architectural coatings. She was named director of architectural coatings product management in 1990 and director of technology at the Springdale facility in 1992. McGuire became the company's first corporate director of quality in 1998, and was named general manager of fine chemicals in 1999. She was elected to her current post in early 2000. In her new role, McGuire will replace Margaret H. McGrath, who left the company earlier this year.
    Molenda, 38, joined PPG's auditing department in1990 and progressed through a series of positions of increasing responsibility in the financial organization before becoming an automotive replacement glass account representative in 1996. She was named director of finance and business development for architectural coatings in 1998 and was appointed to her current position in 2001.
    Pittsburgh-based PPG is a global supplier of coatings, glass, fiber glass and chemicals, with 120 manufacturing facilities and equity affiliates in 24 countries. Sales in 2001 were US$8.2 billion.
