More than Half the Indy Racecars Including Winner Run With Off-the-Shelf Mobil 1

FAIRFAX, Va.--June 5, 2002--New Mobil 1(R) with SuperSyn(TM) helped power Penske Racing's No. 3 Dallara/Chevrolet to a historic back-to-back win at the Indianapolis 500 on May 26, 2002, propelling Helio Castroneves into the record books again as the first repeat Indy 500 winner in 31 years.
Mobil 1 15W-50 with SuperSyn, used exclusively by Penske Racing in its racecars, is available off-the-shelf at auto parts stores, car dealers, quick lube locations, Exxon and Mobil service stations and major retailers across the country.
"For me, I don't think there's a better motor oil than Mobil 1," said Brazilian-born Castroneves, 27, the first driver ever to win his first two career Indianapolis starts. "When I'm giving it all I've got to win, I must have total confidence in my motor oil. That's why I count on Mobil 1. Mobil 1 with SuperSyn delivers performance that is second to none."
"We are delighted to share in Penske Racing's historic back-to-back and unprecedented 12th victory at the Indianapolis 500 and we look forward to many more successes on and off the track with our new Mobil 1 with SuperSyn," said Jan Crowe, Automotive Lubricants Manager for ExxonMobil Lubricants and Specialities.
"Outstanding performance whenever you need it is why more than half the Indianapolis 500 entrants this year elected to race with Mobil 1 in their engines," Crowe noted.
"Mobil 1 with SuperSyn is engineered to protect your engine under circumstances where conventional oils can't," said Tom Olszewski, Group Technical Advisor for ExxonMobil Lubricants and Specialties. "This Mobil 1 formulation delivers unparalleled performance, whether you are competing on a speedway or driving to work. It takes the punishment of high speeds, extreme heat and cold, stop-and-go driving, and dusty environments to provide unsurpassed protection for your engine."
Penske Racing teammate Gil de Ferran, who led 13 laps and finished 10th with Mobil 1 in his No. 6 Dallara/Chevrolet at the 2002 Indianapolis 500, seconded Castroneves' preference for Mobil 1. "When you are in a tight race, you want the highest possible performance from your engine and your motor oil. I know I can trust Mobil 1 to take the heat and much more."
