Nissan Division Reports May Sales Down 1.7%
GARDENA, Calif., June 3 -- Strong sales of the incentive-free Altima led Nissan Division's sales of 56,427 vehicles in May, a 1.6 percent decrease compared with a year ago. The award-winning Altima continues to shatter records yielding its best May ever with 19,070 units, a 42.6 percent increase versus May 2001. Year-to-date Altima sales rose to 84,686 units, up 35.2 percent compared to last year.
In the truck category, Pathfinder sales were up 6.7 percent over the same period in 2001 recording total 5,123 units for the month.
Combined May sales for Nissan and Infiniti divisions totaled 64,060 units, a 1.6 percent increase versus May of last year.
Sales of Nissan's North American produced vehicles for May totaled 43,994 units, which represents 76.0 percent of all Nissan vehicles sold in the United States.
