Race Notes from NHRA Sacramento

RACE NOTES

Troy Buff continued his driving duties in the Darrien/Meadows A-fuel
dragster with his second race in as many weeks. Buff stepped in when former
driver Paul Jones departed from the team.
        Buff qualified 7th this weekend with a 5.881 at 239.09 mph and took
out number two qualifier Brandon Johnson in round one with a 5.831, 238.04
as Johnson lost a blower belt and slowed to a 7.908 at 108.46. Buff lost to
event winner Don Hudson in the semi-finals with a 5.585, 255.55 to Hudson's
5.543, 257.71
        No definite plans are in place for the team at this time regarding
the remainder of the season, although we are sure to see they out there
somewhere as the team just wants to go racing some where some how.

Northwest Top Alcohol Dragster driver Brandon Johnson made the trip down to
compete in just his second event in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series
and qualified in the number two position with a 5.572 at 245.44 mph.
Brandon, driving for his father and Mike Johnson Racing, lost a blower belt
in his round one loss to Troy Buff and the 
        Brandon's first outing was for the Lordco B.C. Nationals at Mission
Raceway Park where he qualified in the middle of the pack before the event
was postponed due to rain. Brandon is slated to take on Duane Shields in
round one when they head back to Mission to finish the event.

        Duane Shields and Steve Gassparrelli each picked up $1,250 from
Federal-Mogul's Sealed Power brand for being the number one qualifier in
their respective categories. Also sharing in the bonus money were Adam
Bowdish in Comp Eliminator, Don Studley in Super Stock, and Gary Harper in
Stock.
        Skip Loeffler took home the NHRA Best Engineer award while Shawn
Steele and his '97 Firebird was awarded the Best Appearing Car and Matt
Constant Racing received the Best Appearing Crew award.  Toylor
Motorsports, Specialty Fasteners, presents both of these awards.
