Rondeau Races for a Good Cause at Jennerstown

 

            Jennerstown, PA (June 3, 2002) - Phil Rondeau, driver of the #19 Racing Against Cancer Chevrolet, is looking to carry his newly repainted car into the top five for the running of the Naturally Fresh Foods 250 at Jennerstown Speedway, on Saturday, June 8, in Jennerstown, PA.

            "We are looking to put Racing Against Cancer Chevrolet, if not in victory lane, at least in the top-five. When we went there in April, we had a decent set-up under the car.  Unfortunately, we got lapped while we were in the pits, then we decided to put four tires on the car," commented Rondeau.  

The 2002 season opener for the Hooters ProCup Northern Division was held at Jennerstown Speedway. Rain forced the field to start by points with 41 cars taking the green flag.  The race featured 24 caution flags for 144 laps, two red flags, and saw 2001 Northern Division Champion Mardy Lindley record his third USAR Hooters ProCup career win.

            "What makes Jennerstown Speedway unique is the bump in the backstretch setting up to enter turn three," said Rondeau.  "That bump throws the car sideways.  The track reminds me a lot of Stafford Speedway and I've won three championships there.  I like the layout of Jennerstown Speedway very much."

In the 2002 season, Rondeau has recorded two top-10s, and finished 12th at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, IN.  His goal for the rest of the season is to finish in the top 25 for the point standings so he can get invited to compete in the Four Champions Championship Series.  

According to Racing Against Cancer's website, the foundation was founded in 1996 by Jon Blanchette after cancer claimed the life of his wife Jodi.  The purpose was to generate awareness and funding for the American Cancer Society.  The organization, which is based in Westbrook, CT, has raised nearly $200,000 since 1996.

            "The success of this program is due solely to the efforts of some amazing people," said Scott Gregory, Director of Operations for RAC.  "Phil Rondeau was searching for a sponsor for the 2002 season and he is a local favorite up around here.  The great people from Foxwoods Casino, the world's largest casino, has agreed to match whatever winnings that Rondeau makes and donate it to the Racing Against Cancer organization."

            Besides competing in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series, Racing Against Cancer also sponsors Powerboats and Gregory's personal truck, which he races in the American Race Truck series.
