Holland Capriotto Auto Parts 150 Results

 

 
            Holland, NY (June 1, 2002) - Jeff Agnew passed Mardy Lindley on the first lap and remained out front for the rest of the night to win the Capriotto Auto Parts 150 presented by Lucas Oil Saturday evening at Holland International Speedway. The win was the fourth career triumph for the 1998 USAR Hooters ProCup Series National Champion.

            "We finally had some things go our way tonight," said Agnew. "The car ran great all night long and we were able to hold off the rest of the guys. When Mardy (Lindley0 made the pit stop I thought we would be okay and I didn't know if he was on the same lead lap or not, but we couldn't take the chance of not knowing."

            Danny Sammons followed in second to continue his impressive run over the past two races. Sammons' career-best finish in the race was also his first career top-five finish in the Series. Brian Ross, who entered the race as the hottest driver in the Northern Division with three consecutive wins, finished third. Dale Evonsion finished fourth for his first top-five finish of the season and Glenn Gault collected his second consecutive top-five finish to complete top-five. 

            Agnew started on the outside pole and quickly took the lead as he and Lindley raced side-by-side on the first lap. Agnew edged across the line first and held on for the 150-lap event.

            "We knew that going for only 150 laps tonight that track position was important and we obviously stayed out front for position," Agnew said. "We have a great sponsor in the Hooters NGA Golf Tour and a great team. Hopefully, we can get here (victory lane) a couple of more times this season."

            Lindley, who wound up finishing seventh, lost a lap while making the pit stop for tires after the seventh and final caution flag was given to the field. On the restart on lap 135 he raced through the field and was able to get behind Agnew with two laps to go.

            Lindley set a new track record in qualifying to win the Sunoco Pole Award and Gault won the W.J. Plemons Hard Charger Award. Agnew added the Lucas Oil Products Halfway Leader Award and the Southern Pride Lap Leader Award. Ross used his third-place finish to win his fourth consecutive Miller Lite Rookie of the Race Award.

            Ross was able to maintain his lead in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series northern Division point standings and Agnew moved into second place. Gault has moved up to third, while Lindley and Jason McLellan completed the top-five.
