JOLIET, Ill. -- Mopar Motorsports NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series teams
completed eliminations for this weekend¹s Chicagoland Dodge Dealers NHRA
Nationals at Route 66 Raceway.
The following are notes and quotes from today¹s elimination activity.
DEAN SKUZA, driver of the Mopar Parts Dodge Stratus R/T
Dean Skuza and the Mopar Parts Dodge Stratus R/T Nitro Funny Car fell in the
second round of eliminations to Tony Pedregon. Despite a strong weekend of
qualifying, changing track conditions hurt the tune up and he smoked the
tires.
³We had one of our best weekends this year,² Skuza said. ³We made a great
run in the first session and really didn¹t do anything different. We did
learn a lot from what we hade. I¹m pretty pleased with it.²
Skuza advanced to the second round with a victory over Tim Wilkerson. The
Brecksville, Ohio resident laid down a 4.853-second lap at 308.00 mph to
take the win.
GENE WILSON, driver of the Mopar Parts Dodge Neon R/T
Gene Wilson had a great starting-line advantage on Tom Hammonds (434-.463),
but a 6.844-second elapsed time at 199.73 mph was quicker than a
6.933-second run at 199.36 mph.
³We slid around in that right lane,² Wilson said. ³Not having lane choice
bit us that round. I want to say thank you to all the Chicagoland Dodge
Dealers who came out this weekend.²
