#10 Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Lola
Miller Lite 250 - Sunday, June 2, 2002 - Race Notes/Quotes
The Milwaukee Mile - West Allis, Wis. - 1-Mile Oval
Round 4 of 20 on the 2002 CART FedEx Championship Series

Tony Kanaan and his brand new #10 Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Lola
saw a great start go all for naught as he retired 92 laps into today's
Miller Lite 250 with an oil leak. Kanaan started eighth but picked up four
spots on the very first lap. He held the fourth position until Lap 43, when
Shinji Nakano, then running second, retired with a mechanical problem,
moving Kanaan up to third. Kanaan pitted for the first time for tires and
fuel under yellow on Lap 65 and resumed in third place. He was still
running third when the car began leaking oil on Lap 92.

Kanaan and the team head west for the next two events, beginning with next
weekend's Bridgestone Grand Prix of Monterey at Laguna Seca Raceway near
Monterey, Calif. It will be Round Five on the 20-event CART calendar for
2002. They'll wind up the brief West-Coast swing in Portland, Ore., June
16.

TONY KANAAN

"We had a really great start and it put us in a good position, if all would
have gone smoothly, to fight for the win or at least a podium finish. I
really wanted a good start because it's very difficult to pass here, and we
got it. The car wasn't great. Hey, it's got only about 170 miles on it, so
we weren't expecting miracles. But we were running lap times as fast as the
leaders, so I guess everyone was in the same boat. It's a shame to leave
another race without any points. Four races and four DNFs. We've got to
turn this thing around if we want any chance at all at any kind of
championship. The guys did such a great job getting this new Lola ready for
me this weekend, I feel really bad for them. But in a lot of ways, we had
our good moments, too, this weekend. It can only get better from here."
