"Galloway All the Way!"
RSAC Scottish Rally, 8th & 9th June, 2002

The third round of the TOTAL supported 206 Super Cup heads to Dumfries for
the classic stages hosted by the RSAC Scottish Rally, on the 8th and 9th
June. The event is split into two legs, one further west with the service
area based in the village of Newton Stewart, with the second day based back
by the main town of Dumfries. The stages are fast - very fast. And the 206
Cup competitors will be taking every chance and risk along the way to gain
advantage. The last event, the Rally of Wales, saw 6.7 seconds split the
top two after 108 miles of thrilling stages. Close competition is the
order of the day right through the field.

Young Ballinamallard based Garry Jennings, only 24, only just missed out on
the championship last year in his first full competitive season, and has
taken the lead in this year¹s points by virtue of his win on the double
header first round, and runner up last time out. He doesn¹t want to be
second again.

Geordie Chris Moore, by virtue of his win in Wales is lying second place in
the 206 Super Cup, also taking runner up spot on the Sunday leg of the
Pirelli Rally. He had led briefly on the first day, but a Keilder ditch
stay was the punishment for sliding wide on a fast corner. But he made no
mistakes in Wales, and carried the battle to Jennings early on in Day 2. He
let Jennings play catch up, which Jennings just failed to do. He too,
wants to take that top spot again, now he has tasted the champagne.

Next off the start line will be the third placed man in the championship,
Boat of Garten man Mike Faulkner. He will carry the in-car cameras on this
event to record his rapid progress on home soil. He was lying second on
this event last year to the eventual champion, before a high speed roll
stopped his charge. Fellow Scots, Huntly based Jack Ingleby with sister
Grania alongside, is currently sixth in the championship, while Quintin
Milne from Banchory has yet to make his mark on the points table, as he has
only made a mark on his car thus far. A heavy roll on the first Leg of the
Pirelli spelled retirement and another problem on Leg 2 cancelled his
efforts out, but he was lying in the top 5 at the time, so is certainly one
to watch, although further down the field. Alan Doncaster is the most
recent Scot to join the fray, now on his second event in the Cup, hoping to
go further than the 5 miles of Wales.

Shaun Gallagher, lying 4th in the Championship, leads the "foreign"
contingent, as the Irishman from Donegal attempts to get back on the pace
after a disappointing event in Wales for him. Marko Ramanen from Finland
took a fastest time in Wales, to finish 3rd, which puts him 5th in the
championship, while Andrus Laur from Estonia is consistently getting to
grips with the car to gain speed and places. Canadian Patrick Richard
missed the last round, due to Subaru commitments in Canada, but winning his
event there outright will inspire him to master the right hand drive pocket
rocket and do the same over here. Greek, George Philippedes rounds off the
truly international flavour of the field.

Gareth MacHale also from Ireland, is following in father Austin¹s footsteps,
Austin contesting the main international field in a World Rally Car.
Richard Sykes put his car on the edge of a cliff face in Wales, literally a
cliff hanger, but again is one to watch. Paul Alexander put a rusty
Gateshead performance to the back of his mind and was lying second in Wales
before landing on his roof after clipping a log.

And the series attracts newcomers too. Matt Jessup is on his third ever
event, Barrhead man Alan Doncaster has only contested a handful, as has Mike
Bird another Irishman, while Jazz Nandhra takes a new co-driver on his first
time out on the Cup this year.
Come and view the scrutineering of the 206 Super Cup from 18:00 to 20:30 in
the Dumfries Ice Bowl.

The action starts on Saturday with the first car being flagged away at 08:00
from the High Street in Dumfries, reaching the first stage Loch Grannoch
with the 3,2,1, at 09:31. Six stages on Saturday, with 20 minutes service
between each pair of stages. A longer service of 45 minutes at Park Farm in
Dumfries at the end of the day, at 15:40, will see the competitors
refettling their cars in time for the next day¹s competition. Sunday sees
a further 6 stages, this time starting at 06:00 from the town centre, with
the first stage, Ae, starting just after 7 am.

The finish at the High Street podium will see the champagne spray for the
worthy winner at 14:33. So, we will wait with bated breath for who that is.
The classic forests here make this event a favourite with the competitors.
Enjoy the spectacle!
