Delphi Announces Two New Personnel Appointments

TROY, Mich., May 31 -- Delphi Corporation announced today two new personnel appointments within its Energy & Chassis division.

Robert Wilson has been named to the newly created position of product line manager for Delphi's advanced energy products. Wilson, 37, will report to Pankaj Dhingra, battery business line executive for Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems. Wilson's previous assignment was divisional manager of strategic planning.

Wilson's successor will be John Carney. Carney, 45, will report to Tom Byers, divisional director of worldwide strategic planning.

Both moves are effective immediately.

In his new assignment, Wilson will be responsible for the profit and loss of Delphi's Energen(TM) and lithium polymer battery business lines globally, as well as energy products developed for new markets. His duties include managing the product line value stream, developing the strategic plan and meeting customer requirements and growth objectives.

"Bob brings a well-balanced set of experiences to his new role," said Dhingra. "We are currently developing some of the world's leading advanced energy technologies, and Bob's expertise in sales, strategic planning and engineering will help us tremendously in growing these product lines."

Carney, meanwhile, will be responsible for managing the division's business plan, which includes nine separate business lines. The assignment supports the need for balance between opportunities pursued by the business and resource requirements for program execution and customer satisfaction, Byers said.

"John is extremely well rounded with his background in sales, accounting and marketing," said Byers. "In his past assignments, he's developed a lot of experience in marketing planning, pricing, competitive assessment, and much more. He'll be an invaluable resource to our executive staff and to our business line teams."

About Energen(TM) and Lithium Polymer Batteries

Wilson will help lead the development of Energen and lithium polymer batteries, two key technologies for Delphi Energy & Chassis.

Delphi's Energen technology provides optimized generation, conversion, storage and distribution of electrical energy for individual vehicle requirements. Energen combines electrical power with engine-based power to improve performance and lower fuel consumption. It also provides higher electrical power to meet the increased demands needed for electrical valve trains, satellite communications, multi-zone climate control, heated seats, on-board computers, and even electric propulsion.

Delphi's lithium polymer battery offers outstanding performance for power and energy density. It utilizes an environmentally friendly combination of polymer materials, lithium alloys and organic solvents to produce a highly efficient battery system. The technology further enables practical hybrid vehicle solutions by providing space-effective battery systems, able to be packaged in conventional vehicle layouts. The superior charge and discharge efficiency will enable high rates of regenerative brake energy recovery without large power conversion losses.

About Wilson and Carney

Wilson is a 13-year veteran of Delphi and General Motors Corp. His most recent assignment was manager of strategic planning for Delphi Energy & Chassis division in Troy, Mich. Prior to that, Wilson spent two years overseas in Singapore as Delphi Energy & Chassis division's Asia-Pacific sales manager. His career began at General Motors in 1989, where he began a six- year period of engineering assignments for Inland Fisher Guide's (and subsequently Delphi's interior division's) seating team.

A native of Kalamazoo, Mich., Wilson earned his bachelor's of science degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Tech University (1987). He also earned his master's degree in technology management (1996) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, based in Troy, N.Y.

Carney has spent 24 years with Delphi and General Motors Corp. in various capacities. In his most previous assignment, he served as Delphi Energy & Chassis division's program manager, where he was responsible for the investment, financial results, program timing and customer satisfaction for a complete brake system supplied to one of Delphi's customers. From 1993 to 1998, he also served as vice president of sales and marketing for Packard Hughes Interconnect, a wholly owned subsidiary of GM.

Carney holds two degrees from the University of Indiana, including his bachelor's degree in accounting (1979) and his master's degree in business administration (1987).
