Ray Elder Leads Inaugural Hall of Fame Candidates
Five-time Nascar Winston West champion Ray Elder leads a group of 30 former
west coast champions, car Owners and officials being inducted into the Inaugural West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame on July 26.
Joining Elder in the Inaugural class will be Bill Amick, Bill Stroppe, Bob
Barkhimer, Bruce Alexander, Carl Dane, Charlie Curryer, Cos Cancilla, Danny
Letner, Eddie Gray, J. C. Agajanian, Jim Dane, Johnny Soares Sr., Lloyd
Dane, Lou Figaro, Marvin Panch, Marvin Porter, Parnelli Jones, Ron Hornaday
Sr., Scotty Cain, Troy Ruttman, Bill Schmitt, Ernie Conn, Hershel McGriff,
Jack McCoy, Jim Insolo, Jim Robinson, Ken Clapp, Les Richter and Roy Smith. The thirty drivers will become the inaugural members of the West Coast Stock
Car Hall of Fame, which honors drivers, car owners, mechanics and officials
who have made significant contributions to the success and colorful history
of the sport.
The event will take place in conjunction with the Second Annual West Coast
Stock Car Reunion July 27. The hall of fame banquet will be held July 26 at
the Sheraton Four Points in Monrovia, California.
The current West Coast Stock Car Hall Of Fame board of directors consist of
Tim Meyer, publisher of Racing News West, Ken Clapp, NASCAR vice president,
track owner, Owen Kearns, NASCAR Craftsman media coordinator, Jack McCoy,
2-time west coast stockcar champion, Les Richter, Nascar vice president, and
Walt James, Race Driver, official and promoter.
