BMW recalls thousands of new 7-series cars over possible fuel pump, valve problems

May 29, 2002

MUNICH, A German newspaper reported that carmaker BMW AG is recalling several thousand of its new luxury 7-series cars worldwide to check for potential fuel-pump and valve problems, a spokesman said Tuesday.

About 15,000 cars could be affected by the pump problem which "may lead to the motor not getting enough fuel and the vehicle stalling," spokesman Alfred Broede said.

A valve defect may affect the motor performance of some 8,000 cars, he added.

BMW says it so far has delivered some 35,000 of the new 7-series autos.

Some cars may suffer from both defects and it wasn't immediately clear how many vehicles in total would be affected by the recall. BMW did not say where the cars were sold.
