DAVID STARR’S TOP-10 STREAK MUCH LONGER THAN HE GETS CREDIT FOR

Dover, Del. (May 29, 2002) -- David Starr, driver of the No. 75 Spears
Manufacturing Chevrolet, has received many accolades for being the lone
driver in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series to record a top-10 finish in
each of the five races this season.

To date, Starr’s best finish this year is fifth, a feat he accomplished
at Gateway International Raceway and equaled at Pikes Peak International
Raceway. His worst finish this year is the eighth recorded at
Martinsville Speedway after a late-race accident with a lapped truck
placed him near the back of the pack for a sprint to the finish.

And while five consecutive top-10 finishes is a remarkable statistic,
Starr’s string actually numbers nine in a row going back to last season.

"That’s pretty cool," Starr commented on the streak. "I ran so many
races without a top-10, and now to have nine in a row is quite an
accomplishment. I didn’t even realize that it had been so many in a row.
After struggling for so many years, it’s fun to race at the front of the
field and have some good finishes."

Starr began racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 1998 and
failed to crack the top-10 during his first 43 starts. Since then, he
has had nothing but big money finishes. Though he ran just five races in
2001, in the last four Starr recorded three top-5’s and four top-10’s,
including a career-best third at the June Texas Motor Speedway event.

This type of consistency is why Starr currently sits second in the point
championship, just a single point behind leader Mike Bliss.

"The goal of the Spears Manufacturing team is to win races," explained
Starr. "So far we have been competitive in each race this season, but
haven’t gotten to victory lane yet. The big picture, however, is the
point championship and so far we’ve done really well in that regard."

Coincidentally, Starr has also finished higher in each race this season
than his starting position. Averaging the five races in 2002, Starr has
started 13th and finished in sixth, a gain of seven positions.

The next opportunity for Starr to continue his streak is the the MBNA
America 200 contested at Dover (Del.) Downs International Speedway. The
green flag flies at 3:30 p.m. EDT, with live coverage on ESPN and MRN
radio.
