J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. Again Named One of Best Places to Work in Information Technology by Computerworld
LOWELL, Ark.--May 28, 2002--For the sixth year in a row, J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. has been selected by IDG's Computerworld for its annual "100 Best Places to Work in IT" rankings. The company came in 38th on the 2002 list www.computerworld.com/bestplaces2002.Computerworld made its selections this year based on answers to a 75-question online survey of CIOs, vice presidents and IT directors at U.S.-based companies. Companies were evaluated based on factors such as diversity, training, career development, benefits and retention.
"We're pleased to capture this industry-wide recognition once again," said Kay Palmer, chief information officer for J.B. Hunt. Palmer believes the company has extended its streak for another year due to some specific achievements for which the IT department ranked higher than a majority of other companies making the top 100 list, including:
-- | A track record of promoting staff from within the department to higher positions; |
-- | The company's commitment to investing in training for IT employees, which was almost twice as much as the median amount for all companies on the list; and |
-- | Its percentage of female managers - 37% of J.B. Hunt IT managers are women compared to the survey average of 30%. |
Palmer also believes the company maintains a positive image in the IT industry because J.B. Hunt considers IT an integral part of the company's strategic advantage. The company has maintained its commitment to IT and the department's staffing level in spite of the recent economic downturn, which hit the transportation industry particularly hard.
The company's IT division, which employs approximately 275 people, is based at J.B. Hunt's corporate headquarters in Lowell, Ark.
