Qualifying Notes at Indianapolis
2:49 PM – Field rolls on course for the 30-minute qualifying session.
2:50 PM – New to 2002, qualifying will be an open session, like on the road
courses.
2:51 PM – During morning practice No. 13 May was quickest, with a time of
0:21.194 (116.52 mph).
2:52 PM – Several cars looking to be working together to post a quick time.
2:54 PM – Two ACC cars are entered this year, No. 29 West and No. 20 Burts.
2:55 PM – Early in the session top-five are No. 85 Irving, No. 33 Dyer, No.
2 Jones, No. 5 Imery and No. 24 McIntosh.
2:59 PM – Cars are frequently two-abreast in the corners during the session.
3:01 PM – Top-five No. 3 Sellers, No. 33, No. 19 Urlin, No. 24 and No. 2.
3:01 PM – Quick time thus far in the session is 0:21.242
3:04 PM – No. 34 Wilkins has moved into fifth place.
3:09 PM – Top-five is now No. 3, No. 33, No. 24, No. 19 and No. 32
Aschenbach.
3:10 PM – YELLOW, No. 13 May into the wall hard exiting turn two. Driver is
conscious and alert, but complaining of back pain. He is being transported
to medical.
3:11 PM – No. 9 Kasemets drove through the debris, but continued. No. 9 has
reported damage to the tires.
3:16 PM – Top-five is No. 3, No. 33, No. 24, No. 19 and No. 9.
3:17 PM – CHECKERED. No. 3 Sellers captures his fourth pole position of
2002. Completing the top-three No. 33 Dyer and No. 24 McIntosh.
