GMC Sierra Denali Named American Power Boat Association Official Tow Vehicle For 2002 Season

PONTIAC, Mich. - General Motors has announced the Vortec-powered GMC Sierra Denali as the official tow vehicle of the 2002 American Power Boat Association (APBA) Offshore Racing Series. GM's Vortec engines were previously announced as the official tow vehicle engines and are also powering boats in the APBA Offshore Racing Series.

The APBA Offshore sponsorship provides GM with the outlet to reach a wide audience while building upon the natural affinity between tow vehicles and boating enthusiasts. It also allows for a unique opportunity to demonstrate the "professional grade" technology of GMC vehicles by creating the link with the high-tech Vortec engines powering them.

The GMC Sierra Denali, as well as other GMC vehicles, will be on display at each of the APBA Offshore races to demonstrate the key benefits they bring to the towing market. With its powerful Vortec 6000 V8 engine mated to a Hydra-Matic 4L60-E four-speed transmission, standard all-wheel-drive and pacesetting 10,000 pound towing capacity, the GMC Sierra Denali provides an ideal mixture of performance and luxury for the "professional grade" enthusiast. In addition, the Sierra Denali's innovative Quadrasteer four-wheel steering system significantly enhances both low-speed maneuverability and high-speed stability with or without a trailer.

The 2002 APBA Offshore season opened April 25 in Daytona Beach, Fla., and features 10 events at various venues in Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Texas. All race weekends include a two-day format and are televised on cable network FOX Speed Channel. For additional information log-on to www.gmvortec.com or www.apbaoffshore.com.
