41 Target The Winston Open race report

TEAM TARGET FINISHES SIXTH IN THE WINSTON OPEN; FIFTH IN THE NO BULL SPRINT
Team Target fails to make The Winston

CONCORD, N.C. (May 18, 2002) - The Target Dodge Intrepid R/T driven by Jimmy Spencer finished in sixth place in The Winston Open and went on to finish fifth in the No Bull Sprint at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Team Target failed to win The Winston Open or the No Bull Sprint and therefore did not move on to race in The Winston.

The Target Dodge started The Winston Open in fourth place. By lap 3, Spencer radioed in to crew chief Doug Randolph that the car was pushing in the middle of the corner off. During the first caution on lap 10, Team Target performed a four-tire pit stop with adjustments. Spencer restarted in 16th position on lap 13 and moved up to the top-10 on lap 16. Spencer consistently passed car by car before finishing sixth on lap 30 and moving on to the No Bull Sprint.

During the caution period between The Winston Open and the No Bull Sprint, Team Target completed a four-tire pit stop with a track bar adjustment in 14.28 seconds and placed Spencer in second position to start the 16-lap No Bull Sprint. Unfortunately, the Target Dodge fell back through the field to finish the No Bull Sprint in fifth place.

Next on the schedule for the No. 41 Target team is the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway on May 26, 2002.
