Today's announcement marks 21st Century Insurance's entry into the California motorcycle insurance market. According to the Motorcycle Industry Council, there are nearly 900,000 motorcycles owned in California.
21st Century Insurance is one of the only direct-to-consumer insurance companies to offer "specialty" motorcycle coverage in California. Many insurance companies strictly limit motorcycle coverage and will only offer to customers with pre-existing auto policies. However, by offering "specialty" coverage, 21st Century Insurance will provide motorcycle insurance as a stand-alone policy to any existing or future customer. As an added incentive for customers, the company will offer a 15% multi-vehicle discount for customers who add motorcycles to their existing auto policies.
"Expanding into the motorcycle insurance market is a good strategic fit for 21st Century Insurance," said Bruce Marlow, chief executive officer of 21st Century Insurance Company. "With more than 90% of motorcycle owners also owning another vehicle, this is an excellent opportunity for the company to further leverage our auto insurance base and retain customers who add motorcycles to their existing policies."
"At 21st Century Insurance, we believe the customer should get more...more coverage, more service, more savings," added Marlow. "Launching into motorcycle insurance and expanding our auto insurance portfolio is just one more way the company is improving and expanding coverage and services for 21st Century customers."
