FOR RELEASE: May 16, 2002 Saturn To Offer Own Credit Card
Household to manage program for Saturn retail stores nationwide
Detroit - Saturn Corporation and its retailers are offering their customers a new option for financing vehicle accessories, service and parts through a Saturn credit card.
The Saturn Card, which will be available in June, can be used at participating Saturn retailers nationwide. Qualifying customers will be able to simply finance parts and accessories purchases and receive special product and financing offers from Saturn retailers. Saturn has 438 retail stores across the U.S.
"The Saturn Card is a natural addition to our unique customer sales and service experience," said Jill Lajdziak, vice president of Saturn sales, service, and marketing. "We continually look for ways to do more for our customers. We expect consumers will appreciate having a convenient way to pay for items for their vehicles, like personalization and customization accessories which have become very popular."
Household's retail services business, part of Household International - the $112 billion (managed assets) consumer lender - will manage the new private label credit card program for Saturn and its retailers. The Saturn Card extends the Household-GM relationship, which began with the 1992 launch of the GM Card, a program that now has over six million members.
"Household's retail services business works with companies to develop customized solutions to help them attract new customers and build consumer loyalty," said Sandy Derickson, managing director and CEO of Household's retail services business. "We're very pleased to extend that service to Saturn, which is leading the industry through this innovative consumer credit card."
"Like other Saturn retail initiatives, the Saturn Card was developed in partnership with Saturn retailers," said Scott MacGirr, Saturn retail strategies manager. "Several months ago, a Saturn retailer suggested the concept because of the financial flexibility it offers. The card builds on our tradition of providing programs with real value for our customers."
