NOTES OF INTEREST: The EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 100 will be
the 16th appearance of the ARCA RE/MAX Series at Lowe’s Motor Speedway
since Curtis Turner won the inaugural race in 1964. Frank Kimmel, the
defending ARCA RE/MAX champion and defending race winner leads the
points headed to Lowe’s after posting 3 consecutive wins at Nashville,
Salem and Kentucky. While Kimmel only leads runner-up driver Damon Lusk
by 35 points and third place driver Chad Blount by 40, Kimmel leads
overwhelmingly in the laps-led category with 282 laps-led already in 02
followed by Andy Belmont with 89, Jason Jarrett with 52 and Lusk with
50. Blount, the 22-year-old Walkerton, IN rookie, is coming off a
runner-up finish to Kimmel at Kentucky and leads the Rookie of the Year
standings over 18-year-old Chase Montgomery and 16-year-old Shelby
Howard. Tim Steele is the all-time LMS ARCA RE/MAX Series winner with 4
wins over Kimmel with 2. However, it’s been since October of 1997 that
Steele has been to victory lane at LMS. Other notable entrants include
3rd-generation drivers Jason Jarrett, Justin Labonte and Billy Venturini
as well as former NFL football head coach Jerry Glanville, Dutch-born
driver Michael Vergers in Bob Schacht’s Ford Taurus, Cedar Bluff AL
rookie Tina Gordon in Mark Thompson’s #66 Midway-Phoenix Ford, as well
as ARCA RE/MAX veterans Andy Belmont, Todd Bowsher (son of 3-time ARCA
RE/MAX champ Jack Bowsher), Ron Cox, Chuck Weber, Brad Smith, Mike
Buckley, Darrell Basham, Greg Sarff, Robert Burroughs, Mark Gibson and
Norm Benning. No driver has repeat wins at LMS other than Steele who won
3 consecutive in 96. Steele and Kimmel are the only former ARCA RE/MAX
champions entered. The EasyCare 100 serves as a prelude to NASCAR’s
all-star events: The Winston Open and The Winston.
