GM Announces Winner Of Bill Smith Award
Fort Smith, Ark. - General Motors and the National Commercial Dealer Council honored Bill Heck, the dealer principal at Reeder-Simco GMC in Fort Smith, Ark., with the Bill Smith National Medium-Duty Statesman Award. The award was presented at its annual American Truck Dealers Association (ATDA) meeting held recently in Las Vegas.
"Bill Heck has the unique ability to look at the long-term results of an issue," said Emil Beyer of Beyer Brothers GMC in Fairview, N.J. "He always considers the views of the customers, dealers, and the factories involved equally."
Awards are given to dealers at various times throughout the year when the National Commercial Dealer Council considers a dealer's diplomatic skills to be outstanding and thus merits the award.
"Bill has a gentle, diplomatic way of presenting both sides of an issue," said Gerry Hall, president of Hall GMC in Fargo, N.D. "He helps differing parties come to a productive solution."
The award was named after the late Bill Smith, a former chair of the Medium-Duty Dealer Council, who was known for bringing parties with differing views together to work at improving dealer satisfaction.
