Montgomery Qualifies in Top Half of Field for Kentucky
SPARTA, KY (May 10, 2002) - Although it wasn't exactly where they wanted to be, the Montgomery Motorsports team will at least be starting in the top half of the field for Saturday's Channel 5-155 at the Kentucky Speedway.
After a wreck in the morning practice, Chase Montgomery will compete in the backup #27 Montgomery Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The car suffered severe rear-end damage and was retired for the weekend.
The team still has a great shot to win the race. Despite the morning's wreck, Montgomery was the fourth fastest car in the field. The car pulled off of the trailer this afternoon finished fifth in Nashville earlier this season.
With only two hours before qualifying, the team worked diligently to get the backup car set up for qualifying.
"The crew worked hard to get the backup car together," Montgomery said. "I appreciate the effort they put in to attempt to make this car as competitive as our primary."
"We're going to go make some changes and will be competitive tomorrow," Montgomery said.
With a time of 34.246, Montgomery will start 17th overall in the 46-car field.
The Channel 5-155 will be held at the Kentucky Speedway on Saturday. The race will be broadcast live on Speed Channel and WLWT Channel 5 beginning at 8:00 a.m.
