AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch; Gas Prices Hold Steady at Popular Driving Destinations

    HOUSTON--May 10, 2002--The statewide average price of gasoline has stayed near $1.36 a gallon for the past couple of weeks, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
    San Antonio motorists are paying the least amount for fuel at $1.294 a gallon, down 0.9 cent since last week. The Austin - San Marcos area is $1.313 a gallon, down 0.5 cent. While pump prices in Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston are holding steady with an average of $1.38 a gallon.
    "As we move closer to the Memorial Day holiday, motorists are paying an average of 25 cents less for a gallon of gasoline today, than they were this time last year," said Rose Rougeau, AAA Texas spokesperson. "They may see price increases as Memorial Day draws near."
