ZETEC CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF WEST COAST CHAMPIONSHIP AND
SEASON-ENDING SHOOTOUT

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (May 9, 2002) – The Formula Ford 2000 Zetec
Championship today announced the formation of a West Coast Zetec
Championship and a season-ending East vs. West Shootout.

The West Coast championship, tentatively titled The Zetec West Championship,
will begin in early April of 2003. The championship will feature five
doubleheader weekends at the Western United States premier race tracks,
including one oval. The Zetec West Championship will run in conjunction with
the current Zetec Championship based on the East Coast and will end in
September. Following the completion of both championships, a season-ending
East vs. West shootout will take place at a centrally located track in
October, crowning a true National Champion. Further details will be
announced in July of 2002, including the finalized Zetec West Championship
schedule, which features three-year commitments with the race tracks.

The Zetec West Championship will use the same rules package as the Formula
Ford 2000 Zetec Championship, giving drivers the opportunity to race in
either championship. Both championships will continue to feature the Zetec
class and the American Continental Championship, for SOHC powered cars,
racing simultaneously for a separate points and prize fund.

The Zetec West Championship will be operated by Formula Motorsports and be
based in Sonoma, Calif. The series will receive extensive support from Van
Diemen International and Primus Racing.

"This is some very exciting news," said Bobby Oergel, president of PR1
Motorsports, a West Coast-based Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship team.
"A lot of talented drivers on the West Coast have never had the opportunity
to race in the championship, and this will definitely help change that. I
also think by creating this championship, it will increase the exposure of
this great series and showcase it to a whole new group of fans and drivers."

“The series has looked at this program for some time now,” said Formula Ford
2000 Zetec Championship owner Jon Baytos. “At times it appeared the
championship would never take place, but Thanks to Mr. Ralph Firman at Van
Diemen International and his support, the Zetec West Championship has become
a reality. I am very excited to be able to offer the West Coast drivers and
teams, the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec package at the same level that the East
Coast has enjoyed. There are a lot of exciting and accomplished teams on the
West Coast and I am looking forward to working with them.”
