Entries open for RSAC Scottish Rally

Regulations have now been published and entries opened for the RSAC Scottish
Rally, Scotland¹s biggest annual motor sport event. The rally is the third
round of the Pirelli British Rally Championship and fourth round of the New
Pig Scottish Rally Championship.

For the sixth successive year the RSAC Scottish Rally, organised by the
Royal Scottish Automobile Club (Motor Sport) Ltd, will be based in Dumfries,
where it will be supported by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

This year the RSAC Scottish Rally starts from the centre of Dumfries, with
the first car flagged away from High Street at 8am on Saturday, June 8.
Ahead of the crews will be a 396-mile route with 127 competitive miles in
12 special stages.
The first leg of the two-day event will finish back in Dumfries around
5.45pm on Saturday, restarting at 8am on Sunday for the final leg. The
champagne finish is scheduled for 4.39pm on Sunday.

Commenting, the RSAC's Clerk of the Course Jonathan Lord said:
"With a very competitive start to the Pirelli British Rally Championship,
following a difficult year with the foot and mouth epidemic in 2001, we are
gearing up for something of a vintage year in 2002.

"I have no doubt that the return of the World Rally Cars will add extra
excitement to the event, while the various one-make championships will
ensure that there is a depth of competition throughout the two days.

"With the usual excellent Dumfries and Galloway stages and a very
competitive package I am sure the events will prove popular."

Competitors in the Peugeot National Rally will compete across the full
two-day route, starting out from Dumfries at 9.30am on Saturday. Meanwhile
competitors in the Autosport Ford Ka Rally Championship, the Ferodo Ford
Puma 1400 Rally Championship and the Castrol Polo Challenge will compete on
the Saturday only.

On Sunday there will be a second one-day event counting towards the New Pig
Scottish Rally Championship. Starting ahead of the international field at
6am, the first competitors in this event should return to Dumfries around
2.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

As always, the RSAC Scottish Rally incorporates the highly popular Land
Rover Rally will be contested by competitors from the British Army Motoring
Association and Scottish off-road clubs. This event runs behind the
international event, following both the Saturday and Sunday routes.

The rally invasion in Dumfries will start on Thursday, June 7 when the
international rally crews congregate for two days of reconnaissance before
the start of the event. Pre-event scrutineering then takes place on Friday
between 3pm and 8pm at rally headquarters in the Dumfries Ice Bowl.

Entries for the 2002 RSAC Scottish Rally close on Tuesday, May 21.
