BMW Group Selects Manugistics to Create Advanced Global Transportation Network

SAN DIEGO, Calif.--May 6, 2002--Today from enVISION 2002, Manugistics Group, Inc. , the leading global provider of Enterprise Profit Optimization (EPO)(TM) solutions that help companies enhance margins by lowering costs and improving revenues across their supply-demand networks, announced that BMW Group - one of the world's leading premium automotive and motorcycle manufacturers - has chosen Manugistics' global logistics management solution to help the automaker optimize its global inbound and outbound distribution and collection network. Using the solution, the BMW Group expects to facilitate planning processes that will optimize the transportation network from suppliers to plants, out to the dealers, while helping reduce transportation costs.
In 2001, the BMW Group produced more than 940,000 premium cars. Global network planners located at the BMW Group's European headquarters in Munich will use the solution to analyze costs, capacity, time, service and other variables associated with planning the global network. This planning capability will help the BMW Group select the optimum supply chain configuration for its distribution and transportation centers and to identify better transportation routes. The solution will also enable the planners to centrally manage BMW Group's inbound and outbound freight movements across multiple modes of transportation, perform "what-if" simulations and analyze carrier performance.
Terry Austin, president of European operations for Manugistics, commented: "We are delighted that the BMW Group has chosen to extend their relationship with Manugistics. We count six of the top ten FORTUNE 500(R) automotive companies as our clients, and the BMW Group's continued commitment to Manugistics is further evidence that our solutions are a preferred technology choice for industry leaders across the world."
Manugistics' global logistics management solution addresses a comprehensive spectrum of complex global logistics processes, from strategic network design and global trade management to final freight invoice payment. The solution is built upon Manugistics' highly scaleable, extensible, and modular architecture to provide companies with enhanced global visibility, adaptive optimization, event-driven execution and process management, and multi-enterprise collaboration.
