LORDCO AUTO PARTS B.C. NATIONALS POSTPONED TILL JUNE
Mission, B.C. - The Lordco Auto Parts B.C. Nationals at Mission Raceway Park has been postponed till June 21-23 due to scattered showers.
"This is the paradise of drag racing when it's not raining," said Sportsman Motorcycle racer Brian Hudson. "It's a shame that things didn't work out this weekend."
Qualifying is closed for the event and additional racer entries will not be accepted when the Lordco Auto Parts B.C. Nationals resumes in June. A racing schedule will be announced at a later date. For more information call the track at (604) 826-6315.
TWO ALCOHOL RACERS MADE DEBUT AT MISSION
Mission, B.C. - Racers Brandon Johnson and Joey Severance made their racing debut in NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competition in the Top Alcohol Dragster class this weekend at the Lordco Auto Parts B.C. Nationals at Mission Raceway Park.
Johnson, of Shelton, Wash., will take over racing duties for the Mike Johnson Top Alcohol Dragster for the remainder of the season.
"I plan on racing the remainder of the Northwest Division events and a couple national events," said Johnson. "How many national events I attend will depend on how well I do this year in Division Six."
Although the rookie competed in his first event this weekend, Johnson is no stranger to drag racing. He is a third generation drag racer and hopes he will be able to continue the family's successful racing legacy.
"I've wanted to get in the car for a very long time," said Johnson. "The division has so many great racers and I look forward to racing side-by-side against them."
Spanaway, Wash., resident Severance, was the top qualifier after one round of qualifying, but was unable to continue due to mechanical problems with the car.
SUPER STOCK HEMI SHOOTOUT PRESENTED BY UBS PAINE WEBBER
Mission, B.C. - The west coast version of the Super Stock Hemi Shootout presented by UBS Paine Webber was held in conjunction with the Lordco Auto Parts B.C. Nationals and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Mission Raceway Park.
Driven by the success of last year's Hemi shootout, racers traveled from as far away as Pennsylvania to compete in this event.
"Racers came out this weekend to see who has the baddest hot rod out there," said Dean Murdoch, publisher of SpeedZone Magazine and promoter of the shootout.
Track conditions set the tone for high speed racing as six racers ran elapsed times in the 8.70s this weekend during qualifying.
Due to rain, eliminations for the shootout were canceled and the purse was split amongst the competitors. Jerry Jenkins of Modesto, Calif., earned a $1000 bonus for the quickest elapsed time of the shootout.
