BMW Group Reports Best Month Ever in U.S.; April Sales Jump 20 Percent;- See New 7 Sales
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., May 1 -- BMW Group (BMW and MINI brands combined) reported year-to-date sales of 78,386 vehicles, an increase of 17.4 percent over the 66,776 vehicles sold the first four months of 2001. April was the best month ever recorded in the U.S. as the BMW Group reported phenomenal sales of 23,994, a 20 percent jump compared to the 20,012 vehicles reported a year ago. (Editor's note: BMW Group sales include two brands in the U.S. with the return of MINI after a 35-year absence in this country. MINI went on sale beginning March 22.)
Sales of the new 2002 BMW 7 Series sedans contributed to BMW's unparalleled sales performance this month.
"The new 7 Series has met with extraordinary success since it went on sale in January," said Ed Robinson, VP of Operations for BMW of North America, LLC. "Last month, our dealers have sold more than 2,100 of these incomparable automobiles, a jump of nearly 40 percent over same period sales of the previous model, and a reflection of how well our customers have received the newest BMW."
BMW Brand
BMW of North America, LLC reported its best month ever with April sales of 22,435, a 12 percent increase over the 20,012 in the same month in 2001. Year-to-date sales of 76,040 were up 14 percent compared to 66,776 vehicles sold in the first four months of 2001.
BMW Automobile Sales
BMW also reported April automobile sales of 18,349 compared to 17,196 a year ago, an increase of 6.7 percent. The company also reported year-to-date automobile sales of 61,958 automobiles, a jump 14 percent compared to 54,407 in April 2001.
BMW of North America, LLC reported its best month ever for 7 Series sales with 2,125 automobiles, a 39 percent increase over the 1,528 sold in April 2001.
BMW Sports Activity Vehicle Sales
Year-to-date sales of BMW's X5 Sports Activity Vehicles increased 14 percent, with 14,082 vehicles reported compared to 12,369 in the first four months of 2001. Monthly SAV sales were up 45 percent, to 4,086 vehicles compared to the 2,816 reported last year.
BMW Certified Pre-owned Vehicles Sales
BMW also reported sales of 5,361 Certified Pre-owned vehicles, a
75 percent increase over the 3,060 reported last April.
MINI Brand MINI Automobiles
MINI automobiles went on sale March 22, marking the return of the MINI brand to the US for the first time in 35 years. April was the first full month of MINI sales in the US.
The company reported sales of 1,477 MINI Coopers and 82 MINI Cooper S' in April. Year-to-date, the company reported combined sales of 2,346 MINIs.
