Mitsubishi Motors Records 12.9 Percent Best April and Year-to-Date Results in Company History

CYPRESS, Calif., May 1 -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA) today reported April sales of 30,029 units, marking the best April in company history and a 12.9 percent gain over April sales in 2001. The record April pushed Mitsubishi Motors' total year-to-date sales up to 120,328 units, a 20 percent increase over the same period in 2001 and an all-time company record for this period.

"Based on the extraordinary response from consumers so far this year, we are optimistic for the remainder of 2002," said MMSA President and COO Pierre Gagnon. "With this kind of momentum and the addition of the all-new Outlander compact SUV this fall, we're well on our way to a fourth consecutive record year."

Mitsubishi's record April sales were supported by Galant's best April ever, delivering 9,048 units and marking a six percent gain over April 2001.

    Some figures of note for MMSA's record April 2002 sales:

    -- April 2002 sales of 30,029 vehicles, up 12.9 percent over last year's
       April sales of 26,601 vehicles
    -- April 2002 year-to-date sales of 120,328 vehicles; 20.3 percent ahead
       of April 2001 year-to-date sales of 100,012 vehicles
    -- Galant had its best April ever with 9,048 units sold, up 6.4 percent
       over sales during April 2001
    -- Eclipse Spyder had its best April ever with 1,871 units sold, up
       25 percent over sales during April 2001
