Rookie Ross collects first win at Illiana
Schererville, IN - Starting in only his second career USAR Hooters ProCup Series race, rookie Brian Ross, driver of the #42 Badlands Off Road Park/LA Customs Ford, collected his first ProCup win, at Illiana Motor Speedway during the running of the Miller Lite 250.
"As cold as the weather was this weekend, I knew the car would tighten up. Illiana Motor Speedway has a tendency of tightening up when the sun sets, and since the sun didn't come out of the clouds yesterday, I knew that it was going to be like running at night," said Ross.
This was only the second race Ross had competed in at the half-mile track located in Schererville, IN. He led 116 laps to beat Eric Corbett to the line. The race had 11 caution flags, for a total of 81 laps ran under yellow. 2001 Northern Division point leader, Mardy Lindley started on the pole; Ross was right behind him, pushing every lap.
"The thing that helped us out, was Mardy's car was set-up tighter than ours was, and I could get more of an advantage out of my car," said Ross.
"I am really looking forward to running Winchester (Speedway) this weekend and Salem (Speedway), in a few weeks. Those are my two favorite tracks," said Ross.
Ross' plans for the rest of the year are to do well in running with the USAR Hooters ProCup Series and keep his sponsors happy.
Besides running with the USAR Hooters ProCup Series Sunday afternoon, after a one day rain delay, Ross also ran in the local late model race.
After the checkered flag fell on the Miller Lite 250 Ross strapped into a late model and competed in the local late model division. "It had been setting in my garage and I decided to run it. We totally missed the setup on it because we devoted all of our time to the ProCup car."
The next stop for the USAR Hooters ProCup Series, Northern Division will be at Winchester Speedway, in Winchester, IN for the running of the Hooters ProCup 250 on Sunday, May 5 with the green flag scheduled to fly at 1:30 p.m.
