Itasca, IL -- The National Safety Council (NSC) will hold its 90th annual Congress & Expo in San Diego, California, at the San Diego Convention Center, from October 4-11, 2002. The nation*s largest annual safety, health and environmental convention, Congress & Expo is designed to help the nation's safety professionals prepare for the health and safety challenges of today and tomorrow.
Congress & Expo is a three-part event that combines the annual meeting of the Council (October 4-6), educational sessions, and the Expo. The Opening Session of Congress & Expo on Monday, October 7 celebrates great moments of everyday heroes in American history. National Safety Council President Alan C. McMillan will spell out his vision for the Council. Attendees will be among the first to hear his important and compelling message, which sets the agenda for safety in America. Mexico*s dynamic President Vicente Fox has been invited to be the keynote speaker during Opening Session.
The second Hispanic Forum on a Safe and Healthy Environment starts after the Opening Session. This forum focuses on building the capacity of Hispanic community-based and Hispanic-serving organizations in ways that equip them to address the safety, health and environmental protection needs of Hispanics in the U.S. and Latin America.
Corporate winners of the Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Safety & Productivity will also present case studies on Monday, October 7 that show how intervention in safety increased their productivity.
At the Occupational Keynote Address on Tuesday, October 8, John Henshaw, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, will give an eagerly awaited update on OSHA-related issues. Dave D. Lauriski, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Mine Safety and Health, has also been invited to speak during the session.
A number of hot topics will be covered in-depth in the afternoon*s Blockbuster Sessions, including *One Year Later - How Safe are the Skies?* *The Politics of Prevention,* *Communication & Motivational Techniques to Improve Safety,* and *Emergency Preparedness, Is Your Business Ready?*
This year, Congress attendees are invited to bring their children (ages 10-19) with them. The Youth Congress, a special program for children of attendees, covers the same safety issues covered at Congress, geared to teens.
NSC division members have the opportunity to network with peers and discuss the pressing issues in health and safety today. Attendees tap into an unmatched pool of industry talent and experience, including 30 Professional Development Seminars -- full-day, two-day and three-day seminars -- which delve in-depth into a number of topics.
