ADVISORY/''Take the Pledge'' Kick-Off Event; Carsmart.com Takes Charlotte Woman's Successful `Pledge' Campaign National to Inspire Americans to Reconsider Unsafe Driving Habits
--WHAT: Last December, dismayed by rampant speeding in her Charlotte, North Carolina neighborhood, resident Sherry Williams posted homemade signs in her yard encouraging passersby to "Take The Pledge: Drive the Limit." She also asked each of her friends to ask five friends to take the Pledge (and to ask these friends to ask five of their friends, etc). From these grassroots beginnings Williams' story soon reached online automotive leader Autobytel Inc. and their branded Web site Carsmart.com. Carsmart.com has joined forces with Sherry Williams to take The Pledge campaign national. Carsmart.com is hosting a ceremonial kick-off event for the national "Take The Pledge" campaign near the site where it all started off Colony Road in Charlotte. Please join the Mayor, Police Chief, Deputy School Superintendent, Autobytel Inc. Vice President, along with Sherry Williams and hundreds of children and parents in communicating this important safety message and inspiring people all over the country to Take the Pledge. WHERE: Alexander Graham Middle School (auditorium) 1800 Runnymede Lane Charlotte, NC 28211 Corner of Runnymede and Colony WHEN: Tuesday, April 30th, 2002 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. Please contact Caroline Schweich or Joe Foster to schedule individual interviews.
