KleenAir Receives CARB Certification for NOx Reduction System
IRVINE, Calif.--April 25, 2002--KleenAir Systems Inc. (OTCBB:KAIR), announced that it has received an Executive Order (EO) from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for its NOxMaster(R) NOx Reduction system for use at this time for off-road construction and agricultural equipment and standby and industrial generators. It is expected that this will shortly be extended to on-road vehicles upon presentation of additional testing data.
The company believes that the NOxMaster(R) system is the first Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to be approved for use on mobile sources. Achievement of substantial reductions of NOx through the use of ammonia injection technology has long been demonstrated at a very large scale on power plants.
"The CARB has been evaluating this technology since last September, taking particular care just because this is the first certified use of a low-cost, down-scaled SCR system suitable for vehicles and small engines," said Lionel Simons, president. SCR is thought to have the greatest potential as a retrofit technology for achieving vehicle emission NOx reductions in the range of 70% to 90%.
KleenAir owns a patented and unique controlled ammonia system which, when injected into the exhaust stream, interacts with NOx produced during combustion. The result converts environmentally hazardous NOx into harmless nitrogen and water.
This achievement is a precursor to securing a CARB Retrofit Verification for the NOxMaster(R) system and EPA Certification under its retrofit program recently introduced.
