SEMA'S NEW SPORT COMPACT COUNCIL NAMES HOROWITZ
PERSON OF THE YEAR
DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (April 23, 2002) - The SEMA Sport Compact Council
(SCC) has honored Brian Horowitz, president of American Products Co.,
Corona, Calif., as its 2002 Person of the Year. The presentation was made
during the April 19 industry reception following the first day of
business at the 2002 SEMA International Auto Salon in Long Beach, Calif.
The annual award is given to a SEMA-member man or woman making
significant contributions to support the sport compact performance
industry.
Craig Paisley, owner of Paisley Automotive, Hempstead, N.Y., was also
honored by the SCC with its Racer of the Year award at the reception
sponsored by Primedia.
SEMA's SCC Racer of the Year Award is chosen from those men and women who
competed in a minimum of five racing events during the previous year and
demonstrated a high level of professionalism as a sponsors'
representative. Other factors considered in determining the Racer of the
Year winner include the year's winning percentages and race wins, as well
as speed or winning records set.
The Council also recognized Universal Studios, creators of last summer's
hit movie release, The Fast & The Furious, at the reception.
The Sport Compact Council was formed in 1997 as SEMA's Import Performance
Committee to serve the compact performance market. Its members have been
instrumental in the development and evolution of SEMA's International
Auto Salon, and are actively involved with the RASR (Racers Against
Street Racing) program to promote legal drag racing.
The Council's goals include representation of the industry with a unified
voice, a higher product and service quality within the industry, and an
increase in professionalism within all aspects of the sport compact
performance market.
Michael Meyers, president of NOPI, Forrest Park, Ga., is the Council's
chairman. Pat Talaska is the Council's SEMA staff liaison.
