BELINDA ENDRESS LEAVES PHOENIX WITH 12th PLACE
-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-
PHOENIX, Tuesday, April 23, 2002 - In her first Grand-Am Cup event, Belinda
Endress ran to an eighth-place finish at California Speedway. In the second
effort of a two-race agreement, the Newbury Park, California-resident came
away with a 12th place in-class finish to add to her impressive racing
resume. The #29 Xtreme Island Designs/ Unicom Wireless/ GMG BMW M3 of
Endress and James Sofronas fell out on the 107th lap of the 152-lap race
after two mechanical woes struck the car. Initially, Endress’ GSI-class
entry broke a fan belt requiring a pit stop. Shortly after the belt was
replaced, the BMW’s differential began to leak fluid and the car was parked
for the day.
“Even though the car was not as competitive as I hoped it would be, it was
set up very well and I had a solid drive at Phoenix,” said Endress. “Its
unfortunate that the fan belt broke. When the diff [differential] went we
had to call it a day.”
Endress qualified the Global Motorsports Group (GMG) BMW 16th and was moving
strongly through the field until the mechanical ailments sidelined her. She
would end the UnitedAuto Sport 250 20th overall.
“I’d like to thank the guys at GMG for all their hard work and for doing all
they could to pull things together,” Endress continued. “But hey, that’s
racing. I’m just very grateful to have the opportunity to run.”
Xtreme Island Designs (XID) of Honolulu is a maker of high-energy,
island-oriented apparel that is sold throughout the United States. A strong
supporter of Endress’ career for a number of years, XID is excited to be
involved in Endress’ move into the highly competitive and professional
Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series. Unicom Wireless most recently joined
Endress for the Grand-Am Cup. The Santa Clarita, Calif. company is the prime
provider of wireless products and services for the Santa Clarita Valley.
Endress owns and operates SK Productions, a sports video company. Prior to
racing cars she was heavily involved in horse racing, working as an
assistant trainer and exercise rider. Currently, outside of her daily work
routine and racing, she acts as a safety and high performance-driving
instructor in southern California.
