IIR Industry Alert: Australian Gas To Liquid Strategic Decisions In Focus

HOUSTON--April 23, 2002--Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Inc.; Houston). Australia has declining crude production and rising demand. By 2005/6 the country will no longer be self-sufficient in transport fuels. This would put the country in a strategically vulnerable position, increasingly dependent on OPEC imports and with a growing trade imbalance. Several projects are being proposed to meet Australia's growing transportation fuel needs. One is a gas to liquids (GTL) plant project proposal from Sasol Chevron that would produce about 30,000 barrels per day (BBL/day) of which about 22,700 BBL/day would be diesel replacement fuel.
