New Trans-Am Website Receives Over One-Half Million 'Hits" in First Two Weeks-Whoa Big Fella

CLEARWATER, Fla. (April 22, 2002) - Since its launch two weeks ago, www.trans-am series.com , the new-look website of the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup, has received more than 500,000 "hits," according to data compiled by Quantified Systems, Inc.
Since the redesigned site went live on Monday, April 8, www.trans-amseries.com has totaled 551,938 hits through Sunday, April 21, an average of 39,424 per day. Predictably, the site received its heaviest traffic during last week's season-opening Johnson Controls 100 at Long Beach, Calif., drawing 67,303 hits on race day, Sunday, April 14, and another 66,863 on Monday, April 15.
Total page views over the same two-week period were 100,686, an average of 7,191 per day. Once again, more pages were viewed on race day, a total of 12,138 on Sunday, April 14, as well as another 11,565 on Monday the 15th.
"We're gratified by the interest that has been shown in the new trans-amseries.com ," said Trans-Am Series president Dennis Huth. "As we work to eliminate the inevitable bugs from the system, we will be adding features that we hope will make the site even more attractive to future visitors."
The new www.trans-amseries.com has been developed by VirtualFocus, a state-of-the-art web designer located in Wichita, Kan. Support for the project was provided by series sponsors BFGoodrich, Westward Tools and Sunoco. A Seattle-based company, 360 Merchandising, has been selected as the series' fulfillment house for all commercial website transactions.
The Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup continues with Round 2, the Victoria Day Trans-Am Weekend, May 17-19 at Mosport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. The race will air live on SPEED Channel on Sunday, May 19, beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
The Trans-Am Series, sanctioned by Englewood, Colorado-based Sports Car Club of America Pro Racing, is the longest-running road racing series in North America, entering its 37th year of competition in 2002. Defending and three-time series champion Paul Gentilozzi, winner of the season opener at Long Beach, will be looking to claim his fourth title against a strong field of rivals including Boris Said, Johnny Miller, Lou Gigliotti, Michael Lewis and 2001 Rookie of the Year Justin Bell. Three of the Trans-Am's mid-season events will be televised nationally by CBS Sports, while the others will be carried by SPEED Channel on either a live or tape-delayed basis. All Trans-Am drivers compete for the prestigious BFGoodrich Tires Cup, emblematic of the series driving championship.
