Law Second In Phoenix
PHOENIX, Ariz. (April 20, 2002) - For the second consecutive race, Darren Law finished second in the Rolex Series SRP II class.
Since the team failed to qualify on Thursday, the #07 Momentum Motorcars/G&W Motorsports BMW-powered Picchio sponsored by USI Insurance and Valley Group had to start from the back of the pack.
Within the first 20 laps of the UnitedAuto 200, Law maunueverd the #07 machine from 28th to the sixth position overall. By lap 65, Law moved up two more spots to fourth overall.
"We had a great race in the beginning," Law said. "The car was moving up quickly until we had a mechanical problem about an hour into the race."
The Picchio machine battled mechanical problems all week at Phoenix International Raceway and the race was no exception.
With about 60 laps to go, the Picchio's motor problems resurfaced, forcing Law to make an unscheduled pit stop.
The team managed to get the car back out within five laps. With Law's teammate Andy Lally aboard, the Picchio crossed the finish line second in the SRPII class.
"We were happy to get another podium finish," Law said. "We are getting closer every weekend to getting this car where we want it to be."
With the second place finish, Law gained two points in the driver standings on point's leader Terry Borcheller.
Law will have several weeks off until the Rolex Series resumes at The Six Hours of The Glen at Watkin's Glen, NY, at the end of June.
"We are looking forward to the long break," Law said. "It will give us some time to do testing on the car and try to get things figured out."
